Born in Porto Empedocle, Sicily, Italy in 1925 he began to work as stage-manager in 1942. After that he directed more than a hundred works of Luigi Pirandello, Samuel Beckett (which he introduced to Italy for the first time in 1958), and many other authors. In the sixties and seventies, he worked for Radiotelevisione Italiana (RAI) and he was production manager for a long series of TV Movies and Miniseries based on the novels of Georges Simenon and on an original character, Lt. Sheridan, created by Mario Casacci and Alberto Ciambricco. In 1978 he wrote his first novel. Then in 1994 he published his first mystery in which appeared the character Salvo Montalbano, based on Jules Maigret, which became a bestseller. Its title was _Forma dell'acqua, La (2000) (TV)_ and later many TV Movies were based on his works. He is married, has three daughters and four grandchildren. He lives in Rome.- Armando Furlai was born on 13 July 1897 in Porto Empedocle, Italy. He was an actor, known for The Spy Who Loved Flowers (1966), Labbra serrate (1942) and Umiliati e offesi (1958). He died on 29 December 1986 in Rome, Italy.
